Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Marie I live in the city San Francisco, and I've been in caregiving for 20 years, long time, and I love this job. After the city and county ran out of money because-- we were terminated. They didn't have enough funds to pay us. I had to look for another job where I had to be taking care of patients so I went into caregiving.
What do you enjoy most in caregiving?
I always liked taking care of people. It's just my way of giving back to the community that I could take care of the older patients, veterans, help people who need help, special help. Children who are-- there are children who have cancer. And hospice. I like taking care of those people and helping them. I had been working at the San Francisco General for seven years, and it also gave me some more of-- it added to my experience as a caregiver, and I like this experience also because it also enriched my background as a caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I would like to talk about the latest client that I had. She was a 90-something year old lady and she was funny, funny lady. We used to tell stories and exchange jokes, and she was so-- we were just into it. When I'd come into the house, she would be so happy and then she would be dancing and dancing. I also danced with herand it made her happy.
