Hi, my name is Mariselle. I live in San Antonio, TX. I've been a caregiver for over 17 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother needed assistance while she was recovering in a skilled nursing facility. While I was coming to visit her, I noticed that the care wasn't up to par or up to our standards. So, I became a caregiver, because I know I can make a difference, because I am very attentive and genuine compassionate person.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have a genuine compassion. And if you don't have patience, you are in a wrong business.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Becky. She was a patient of mine recovering from a stroke. I used to read to her for almost three months every night while I was working. When she finally was able to communicate with me, she thanked me with tears in her eyes. That was very heartwarming for me.
