Hello, my name is Marlene. I lived in Sylmar, CA and I've been a caregiver for eight years and of those eight years, I've been a CNA for six years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to help people. I find it gratifying and it has benefited me and my personal experience because it allows me to care for my grandmother, if necessary.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be caring, compassionate and very patient, especially when working with the elderly because some of them can be accustomed to their own ways and are used to being independent, they may not like the fact that they have someone watching over them but it's important to make them feel comfortable and allow them to have a say in how you care for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget were actually the ones that have been graciously thankful and appreciated my care. Just honestly hearing them say thank you for everything you do is the best feeling and it just reminds me every day of why I love to do what I do.
