Hi, my name is Marquisha. I live in Houston, TX and I've been a caregiver for eight years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my mom. She worked with the elderly, so I used to go in and helped her. And then when I was in high school, I volunteered at a nursing home, and I used to do their nails, and do activities with them, and then after that, I went to go get my CNA license, and I've been caring for the elderly since then for eight years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, be yourself, be compassionate, be respectful, be humble, and do a great job.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, she was 96. I took care of her for five years, and she didn't have no family. She didn't have no kids, but she loved me to death because she was around me and my family for holidays, because she didn't have no one to spend it with, so she just loved me. She thanked me for being so nice and all this, and for being professional to her, and just bringing her around people for the holidays because she did not have that, because she didn't have no kids, her husband had passed away so many years, so just being around family for holidays, she loved it.
