Hi. I'm Mary Grace. I live in Roseville, CA and I have been working as a caregiver for almost a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because it is my passion to help the elderly. I'm very happy to work with them and I realize it myself when I started to work that I want to encourage them that life is very busy for them. That's why for me I can say I became a caregiver because this is my passion and I love to work with them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is you need to have patience, you should understand their situation. Always communicate with them, always tell them that, "I'm here to help you. I'm here to support you. I will give my best as I can." And you should have a big, big love to work with them. You have to have a sense of humor.. You should be there to help them. You have to know that life is very nice and life is beautiful, life is happy.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I remember is Jasmin. She's very nice. She's been nice, very lovely lady. Before she died we share a lot of memories. We would sing to each other, we would sing like, "Que sera, sera." Then we would comb her hair. We had a lot of funny stories and she shared also her funny stories, like, jokes. We shared a lot of jokes. I always tell her, "What a very nice morning today," and she always say, "Good morning, good morning. Thank you." She always appreciated what I was doing.
