Hi, my name is MaryAnne. I live in Monte Rio, and I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was taking care of my father who was ill. He had diabetes, cardiac problems, he had a stint in his heart, and while he was alive I was with him. He's no longer with us.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience. Take your time getting to know each other. Find a common denominator that will bond you. And remember, they need their privacy, and independence, and respect, as well.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mary. Her and I had a really great bond, and we actually were not caregiver and client. We were roommates. I did 24-hour live-ins with her.
