Hi, my name is Maryssa. I live in Wildomar, CA and I have four years of experience as a CNA / caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was in middle school, my grandma was diagnosed with dementia, and she came to live with us for a year before she passed away. During that year I helped my parents to take care of her, and I just grew a passion for working with the elderly at that point. When I was in high school, I took an ROP Program to become a CNA, and I just had a strong passion for working with the elderly and loved doing it ever since.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, just to always be honest and do your best, no matter what you do. To have passion and love for your work, and to just always stay positive.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is one lady that I helped at her home. She had dementia and she was just such a sweet lady and had the best sense of humor ever. I love working with the elderly, especially when you're able to connect with them and grow a bond. So I will always remember the lady who called me her granddaughter, and even though I wasn't, I still found love and passion when I worked with her.
