Hi, my name is Mayra. I currently live in Alhambra, CA. I don't have any experience as a caregiver as of right now. I am a nursing student. I have been interning in a facility for about five months. I have experience with dementia patients, drug patients, cancer patients and I am CPR and CNA certified.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver, because I really, truly have a passion for taking care of other people. I recently took care of a loved one for about two years, I took all the responsibility and in my nursing program, I realized that I truly have a passion for taking care of people that really need help in time of need. I love to see them smile and I love to be there when they really need someone to help them out.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to truly do their job with love and compassion, to walk in every single day with a smile, because you can make a difference in that person's life, to put yourself in their shoes and to really, really feel the love like if it was your own family and you're taking care of them, because they're a person and they need all the help that you can give them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, her name was Ann. She was in my first clinical rotation and she was a stroke victim, a mother of three and I remember when she first was admitted, she would cry every single day for her family and she had a hard time adjusting to the situation. I would walk in the room and hold her hand while she cried and just have her speak to me, have her vent to me about her situation. I would assist her every single day and just seeing her face made my face smile. I had a great connection with her, and I still go visit her even if I'm not currently working there, because she made such a huge difference in my life and I love providing that for others.
