Hi, my name is Meghann. I live in Morgan Hill, CA and I have been a cargiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because the most inspiring event was probably taking care of my grandmother when I was in school because she had terminal cancer. I took care of her for the whole summer with my mother, and it's probably had the most impact and influence on me as far as caregiving goes.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to reach out to other caregivers and find out little tricks and tips that can help. Sometimes it takes the experience to know these things rather than just educational knowledge from a book. That would be the main thing that I would suggest to a new caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Rose. She is a current client of mine. She is 90 years old and is living with dementia. We have a wonderful time together, and I'm able to take her to the senior center every week. Incredibly entertaining and just wonderful for me to be able to spend time with. Despite her dementia, she still is very active, and we have wonderful conversations when she is more clear. And she actually has pretty incredible memories of her time living in New York.
