Hi, my name is Melanie. I have been a caregiver for the past eight years and a CNA for the past three years. And I live in Los Angeles, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I've always enjoyed helping people and caring for people's needs. And, also, my dad has some health issues, and I was able to be the one to take care of him. And that made me want to continue to be a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient, listen to your patients to their needs, be considerate, and always be loving with the care that you give.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget would be Sarah. She was mentally disabled, and she could not do things for herself. But she could talk, and a lot of other caregivers, she didn't want to be bothered with for whatever reason. But she always called me into the room to help her, and I was the chosen one to help her, out of anyone in the house because she stayed in a group home.
