Hi, my name is Mercedes. I live in San Francisco, CA and I'm a caregiver for almost 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I realized I'm good at it and decided it should be my profession and because I found out it is a good paying job. Working as a caregiver is a very humbling and I think making my client more comfortable as possible is the best way I can give back to this love.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be, the caregiver must be patient, honest, they should have love and have a heart for their patients and do their job the best way that they can give to them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will not forget is Irene. Irene can afford care for her caregiver and I worked for her and she has an advanced Alzheimers disease. She has a physical disability contracted and bed bound. I do personal hygiene such as bathing, oral care, bowel region, and transferring from commode into the chair, light housekeeping and light cooking. I will also cook for her with her diet because it consists of pureed food and thickened liquids. She is fully dependent on maintenance. I really love my patient because I work there for four years and three months and I care for her like she was a family and I am very sad because she passed away last December.
