Hi, my name is Micheal. I live in Sacramento, CA. And I've been a caregiver for about three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my auntie, first, was sick with cancer, and I started caring for her. And then shortly after that, my grandma got diabetes, real bad diabetes, and I started caring for her. So that inspired me to be a caregiver and care for others.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be never say you can't do something. You always want to find somebody or something to inspire you. And in my case, it's always God. So you've got to have faith in everything. If you're in a wheelchair, or if you can't get up, or if you're in a bed, always wake up the next day, saying, "I'm going to get out of this bed, or get out of this wheelchair today."
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my grandma. She's so sweet. Even though she tells me to do everything, and bosses me around, she's always sweet at the end of the day and take care of everybody else.
