Hi, my name is Michelle. I live in Chula Vista, CA. And I have over 30 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because at the time I was five years old and I was raised in a Mexican family where we had to care for our grandparents or our parents. And ever since then, I've had the love for the elderly. My first job was when I was 14 years old taking care of a lady for four hours on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 to 12:00 and I was getting paid $5 an hour.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always get to know the family. Listen to what the family has to say about the patient, and then take it from there.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is May. The first day I met her, she touched my hand, she touched the tip of my hand, and said, "There's something about you, I feel like you're my daughter.
