Hi, my name is Michelle. I live in Lodi, CA. I have 18 years' experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I want to help people to be able to stay independent in their house. I know that my life skills with raising my family and my paraplegic daughter has allowed me to be able to help with appointments, driving and transportation, housekeeping, organization, shopping and garden. I pet care, I have hens and backyard chickens. I enjoy people and I want to be a help.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be kindness, understand where your client is coming from and the challenges that they face. How can you come alongside them? How could you make their life better or easier, lift their burden?
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Betty. She wanted companionship, she wanted to talk about the old days and let me know how she came to the valley, how she set up a house and what her life used to be like. She enjoyed playing games and sitting.
