Hi, my name is Misty. I live in Palmdale, CA. I have over four years experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was inspired by my grandmother. She was a retired nurse and I grew up seeing her. And also, I had several surgeries and I wanted someone to care for me. And that was really inspired me to become a caregiver, so I can give people their encouragement and love that I received when I was sick.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have a passion for it and be a good listener to your patients and be very understanding and don't take a lot of things to heart, especially if they're in pain. Just be sensitive to their need. And put a smile on your face because that will warm their hearts.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget her name is Janelle. And she was on a hospice and she was declining fast, and they didn't think she would make it over like a month. And I always made her laugh, and her family was surprised that she laughed. And she was very amused by me, and I did silly things and it made her feel better. And her family was just excited over the moon that I was able to do that because no other caregiver has done that. So, she will always be close to my heart. I looked at her as if she was my own grandmother. And I love her and I do miss her. And this makes my job even more exciting because I'm able to put a smile on a patient's or client's face.
