Hi, My name is Mona. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caregiver for approximately 9 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like to help people. And my father was sick, and I helped him. He had dementia. And that was my father. I loved him, but he has passed on. And I have a compassion for helping people, and it gives me the joy to help people and to make them happy.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to give to a new caregiver would be to not argue with the patient - the patient is always right - and listen to everything that they have to say and patiently come up with a solution.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Stanley. He lived in Pasadena. He was blind and had cancer and dementia. He loved my cooking and always wanted me to cook three meals a day which I did with no problem. And he fell out of the bed one day. I picked him up. We put him back in bed. He gave me a great big hug and told me that he loved me and thanked me for being there for him. And that touched my heart and made me happy and it made him happy, too, that I was there for him.
