Hi, my name is Monica. I live in Seaside, CA and I have 28 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like to be with people, I like to help people, and I have long years of experience working as a caregiver. I work with private clients. I work with hospice clients. I work at a community hospital in Monterey Peninsula and in government hospitals for quite some time, and I work through agencies. I'm still in school right now and working as a caregiver at the same time. I'm a people person and I like to work with people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to treat patients with kind and gentle loving care and treat them as your own parents, and make them feel you care for them, watch them all the time, and do what you can to help them out.
Who is one of your most memorable clients
A client I will never forget, I've worked for them for over seven years and they were husband and wife. I've worked for them when they were in their 80's until in their 90's. And I'll never forget the closeness that we had and the trust that they had for me. I did everything for them, their hygienes, everything. I took care of them just like my own parents and they trusted me more than their own children. I will not forget this couple. I am very happy I was able to care for them.
