Hi, my name is Monique. I live in Los Angeles, CA. I have been a caregiver for about five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was younger I took care of my grandmother who had Alzheimer's and I felt like it was the right thing to do. To help someone that didn't really know how to take care of themself. So as I grew older I felt like either I was going to work in the nursing field, or become a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to try your best to get to know your patient such as what they like, what they don't like, what makes them comfortable, what makes them uncomfortable. And also be prepared for any emergency that can happen.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I would never forget is Deena. She would go on outings with me everyday, and we would go eat pineapple pizza. So now, when I see pineapple pizza I think of Deena because she was a regular customer. Everyday at 12:00 we would go eat pineapple pizza.
