Hi, my name is Mponda, I live in Vallejo, CA, and I've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I am very passionate about healthcare, and also took care of my grandparents when they were in need of help. So basically, I'm really interested in working with the senior population, and have a passion about healthcare. I believe that seniors deserve to have quality healthcare, and I'm really interested in providing care to the elderly.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have passion and respect. I believe that to be a good caregiver, you really have to be passionate about providing care, and also to respect the person that you providing care to. The elderly population are people who had jobs before. They had somebody that they took care of, and they were people who contributed to the society. And we have to have it in mind that those are people that worked before contributed to society. So we have to make sure that we preserve their dignity, and we also have to respect them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is one of the clients that I took care of few years ago. She was an elderly client, and she was really full of joy and happiness. She was about 78 years old, and she really liked to watch TV, listen to music, dance, and go for a walk in the neighborhood so she had a lot of stories. She told me stories about the time when was was a young girl. She was really active, and she really liked to dance. And it's something that I really liked because she shared some good memories and we really had a good time together. So we, basically, went for walk, watched TV. That was really nice. So this is a client that I will not forget.
