Hi, my name is Myesha. I live in Oakland, CA and I've been a caregiver for 5 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother started having seizures and she needed someone to look after her very often plus, my uncle ended up getting cancer and didn't have the proper care and ended up dying three weeks later after he was diagnosed. So that's why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to give that you have to go into the field with a very open mind and understand that each client and patient have different wants and needs and you have to treat them different and work with them as such, as what they may want or need.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my mother because she's the one who inspired me to become a caregiver, even look into this field. She taught me to have an open look on life and on different people's sickness and their needs once they get older and once they are diagnosed with a certain type of sickness.
