Hi! My name is Myrisa. I live in Lancaster, CA and I have been a caregiver for 4 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I originally went to school, but some of the courses being offered, alot of that it wasn't for me, it wasn't exactly of what I want to do. I want to be more hands on and help people. And when I got into caregiving, when I had my first client, I knew right away this is something I want to do, I want to be able give back to someone, that needs a little more help, whether it's around their house, shopping or cleaning their house, whatever they need help with.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have confidence, because alot of the elderly, if they feel like you are not sure that you know what you are doing, they will feel that vibe and they will not like you anymore. They are not going to believe that you know what you are doing if you don't feel confident.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Charlene. She was terminally ill with cancer. Her family called me in to help take care of her, because her family found out that her cancer came back. And, just the connection I had with her family was outstanding, and something I've never gone through, even though her story came to an end, of her passing away. It was so awesome to be able to work with her, for the 8 months that I did.
