Hi, my name is Nadine. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caregiver for 17 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I used to take care of my grandmother when I was back home. When I came to the United States, I wanted to do the same thing because I love helping people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient and to give those people a lot of love. I know sometimes it's very hard because when you reach a certain age, things become difficult for the person. You are there to understand them, to give them love, you have to be patient. You have to make sure that they have anything they need. You have to be sure that they're all comfortable.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is this nice lady. She came from Germany. She was very nice. I know she had a stroke and that's why I was there. She took me as a daughter and she loved me. She would tell me stories when she was young. She would tell me how she came to the United States. Her children were so nice when they came to see their mom. They really wanted to be there with them. I learned a lot from them. It was a very nice family. I had a good time with them.
