Hello, my name is Nakia. I live in Houston, TX. And I have five years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to interact with people. I have been in the health field over a decade and I love it. I am a giving person at heart. I try my best to help those that cannot help themself. And to be honest, I hope as I get older, there'll be a person that's as kind as I am and that'll help me and won't take advantage or treat me bad.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would to stay within the scope of practice and to listen to the provider. It's not about what you want. It's about what they need and what they want.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Betty. She was 94 years old when I first became her caregiver. And she lived at home by herself on several acres in the country. And it took me a minute to understand her ways and what she liked.
