Hi, my name is Nancy. I've been a caregiver for 40 years. I live in Alameda, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I have become a caregiver because my first job was in a convalescent home as a nurse's assistant. It inspired me to take care of the elderly or anyone who needs care for that matter, I'm 58 years old and I'm still caring for people who need care.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient and understanding, loving, tolerating bad situations, doing what needs to be done to take care of somebody. That would be my advice to a new caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable episode would be last year, I took care of a 96-year-old woman and she was a sweetheart. She was definitely kind and caring. She appreciated all the work I gave her and she gave me a compliment by telling me, "You know how to take care of people." She was referring to me as opposed to another caregiver that she had that she wasn't too hot on and I took that as a high compliment.
