Hi, my name is Nanel. I live here in Daly City, CA. I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have a passion for people, especially when they're not feeling well. When they need help, I love to help them, I love to be with them and I enjoy their company. That's why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be compassionate, to be a listener, to have empathy, to have patience, to have-- I think in one word is to be compassionate, that you can adjust yourself to the patient, to the person, that you can communicate with them which is vital under difficult mental and emotional well-being.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I worked for Stanford Hospital and I admired this person. She's a lady and she has problems with dementia or Alzheimer's but I'm really surprised that she loves her Bible. She wants to bring it with her anywhere she goes and she will remind me to read her Bible before she lays down to bed. Very, very unique situation that I will never forget.
