Hello, my name is Natasha. I've been a caregiver for 4 years, and I currently live in Crockett, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I started helping my grandmother. She was a caregiver as well, and I would help her with her clients when she got older and needed more assistance. It was just something I always enjoyed doing. It was always a great thing for me to sit with and give companionship to older adults, and just learn about them, learn about their lifetimes, things that they've seen. Four years ago, I got my CNA license so that I can continue with that. I also just received my home health aid license yesterday. I've also worked at a day program for adults with disabilities as a instructor aid. So I've been doing this for a while. I really enjoy it, and it's just something that I love doing.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be passionate in what you do, kind, patient, and be understanding, and treat someone as if they're family, and treat them in a way that you would want to be treated as well as how you want your family members to be treated.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I will never forget is Miss Gloria. Miss Gloria was very quite. The way you were able to get to know her and get her out of her shell, she would talk to you about a lot of things. The best memory I have of her is always painting her nails. That was something that she really liked to do and was really important to her. I also remember her always needing to have her gloves on, her glasses on, and her bonnet on whenever we left. I enjoyed all the time that we spent together, and the memories that we made and shared will always be with me, and it will have a long-lasting affect on me. She was just such a great person. I really enjoyed working with her.
