Hi, my name is Nathaniel. I live in San Pablo, CA and I have three years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I am a compassionate individual who enjoys providing exceptional care to people of different ages. And I believe caregiving comes naturally to me because it gives me great satisfaction to help someone. And this job actually enables me to bring a positive change in the lives of my client.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be dedicated to their work and be very patient with their clients. They have to love the job. Because if you did the job for the love of the money, you will never be able to get it right. You have to be very organized so that you can keep the patient's timetable in check.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Patricia. She was a patient with dementia. There was one certain incident where she refused to take her medications. That was alarming, as she was suffering from many underlying physical conditions as well. And no matter what I did or said to her, she wouldn't open her mouth. She would just sit there and sulk. It was extremely challenging to provide her with any kind of care.
