Hi my name is Micky. I live in Buena Park,CA. I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom, she's diabetic. She's been battling diabetes for 12 years and that's where I start as a caregiver. And from there, I start working for EB patients, then move on to senior citizen health care and elderly cares and hospice.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is have patience, be honest, and be knowledgeable on certain tasks that you need to do for the client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I will never forget is Andrew. He had a brain cancer. He was battling it for 12 years, and I was assigned on him on his last two months in his life. It was just hard for him and it was emotional to me as well that you see how people start to decline due to his cancer. But he told me that he already did whatever he could do. He was battling it for 12 years, and he did his fight. On his last few months, this Thanksgiving, he was very thankful for everyone that help him and thankful to me for the last few months of his life. And that was very meaningful to me, and I will never forget him.
