Hi, my name is Nicole. I live in Cupertino, CA and I've had one year of experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I've always wanted to be a nurse. I've always wanted to help people in need. It wasn't due to any event that happened. But I just always thought there was a care to the world. I've always wanted to help people at the end. So that's what inspired me to be a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to have patience while working. Because sometimes they might not be having the best day or they might not be feeling well. But just having them see you in a positive mood will help them be in a positive mood also. So definitely don't give up on them. Have a lot of patience with yourself. I feel like that's very important because you never know what day they're having. Always be optimistic. Be patient. Be positive and just enjoy your time with them. And ask them a lot of questions.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Rose. I remember walking into her house delivering a basket of goods for Passover. And she was 103 years old so she lived around for awhile. And I just remember always being-- just delivering the goods to her and how thankful and grateful she was. That she can't do this anymore. And I remember sitting down, having a conversation with her, asking her a lot of questions. That was definitely my most memorable experience as a caregiver.
