Hi my name is Nicole. I live in Stockton,CA. I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had family members who were diagnosed with cancer and it was hard to not be able to care for them during the time that they were diagnosed. Once I was able to become a caregiver, I wanted to do the best that I could to help those who were sick and try and get them the best care that I could. I've always loved helping people and I just want to make people feel better and give them the best care that I can.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to build trust with your client, respect them and their aspect of their care. Listen to them, value their opinions, and work hard, and make sure to keep a smile on your face, and stay positive. Just keep a positive energy and you can help your clients be in a positive mood too by looking at the better things and just trying to just stay positive, and that can really help.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable moment with a client was with Willy. I had came into work and he had such a big smile on his face. He was so happy to see me and had said how much better his day was going now that I came and that he was getting so much power off my energy that I was giving and that I was just giving off so much positive vibes. It made me feel very good, and I just remember just telling him that I appreciated his kind words and everything. I remember that he was kind of sad and I felt maybe upset and I wanted to know what was wrong. He felt like he was going to be a burden by telling me that he didn't have anything to eat. And out of the kindness of my heart, I had called my husband and said, "Can you come bring me some food, please?" And I had provided him with some food.
