Hello. My name is Nora Gallegos. I currently live in Berkeley, California, and I have been a caregiver for about five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I thought it would be something that I would be really good at doing. When I got into college, and I was looking for that first job, I never thought that caregiving would be something that I was going to do. But I ended up doing it for about five years. I genuinely enjoy helping others and when I do, I feel a big sense of relief and reward that comes from it. And that's why I kept doing it over and over.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
Advice that I would give a caregiver is to always to prompt and reliable. Our clients always want somebody who is trustworthy, and that they can go to whenever they need. To be that person builds a good reputation for you and keeps you in good spirits with everyone else.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I think often times you can become really distracted with everything around you, and then when you step into a client's home, and you just enter their energy space. And if they're positive and everything about them is positive, you start realizing how important it is to be positive and give off that energy to other people. And that's something that I think Danielle, one of my clients for about a year-- that's something that she did for me, so I think that I will always hold that very dear to me and just try to create positivity around me so it can be contagious to others, and to carry that on for my other job.
