Hi, my name is Norbis, I live in Richmond, TX, and I have been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had a friend who had cancer. She passed away. And that was really sad experience because she was one of my best friends, and I loved her very much. But that feeling showed me a weakness of the people. So people feel and be alone in these kind of process.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a caregiver will be have a lot of patience. Have the love of God because as a caregiver, we will need that a lot because these people are having these really big problems like dealing with an illness, or being alone, or don't have family, don't have love. So they need that love and patience.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, I don't say client because she was my best friend or one of my best friends. And basically, I got experience with her as a caregiver because when she said that diagnosis with cancer, I started taking care of her and providing meals, remind her medications, driving her to the doctor appointment. So I don't feel now that she was my client. Lisa was a special friend for me. She was my companion.
