Hi, my name is Norma. I've been a caregiver for eight years and I live in Chula Vista, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I began as a caregiver in high school. They had a work experience to get extra credit, they would take the class to nursing homes and just get hands on. We would go once a week, I really enjoyed helping the people in there needs and just being around them. It was just a beautiful thing for me to see how happy they would get when they would see us, spend time with them and help them with whatever they needed. At the end of the program, they actually hired me full-time because I did so well there and I was hired after school. So I would go after school and work full-time. That was my experience.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
I would give advice to a caregiver to be patient, be loving, kind and respectful.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I will never forget and I will always treasure her in my heart, it was someone that I worked six months ago. It was last year. She passed away but she was just so beautiful, beautiful soul and when she would see me, we would just have so much fun together, playing games, talking, laughing and she really enjoyed everything. I enjoyed everything we did together and she was just a beautiful person.
