Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Novavilla. I live in Oakland. I've spent fifteen years being a caregiver and two years for CNA.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I'll never forget, he lives in my home and the doctors said he had cancer of the lungs. They said he'd pass away in nine months and I've cared for him for six years. The most challenging time that I've had is that he got Alzheimer's Disease. And we worked through that because he just was always like, hitting me and he would throw me back. I sit and I told him, "We play this, read that." He smile, watching TV, played some big cards and then he forgot to do that and we're having fun. It's just the time of their life.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
Advice to a caregiver is to treat their client like family.
