Hi, my name is Nydetra, I live in Baltimore City, MD and I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like helping others and ones that can't fend for their self. At a young age, I used to help my grandmother when she became blind and I kind of took an interest in that as well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to come in with an open mind, never take things personally. Make sure you come in not just looking for a paycheck, make sure your heart is in for it. You got to be compassionate, got to have patience, you can't just rush things through. Make sure you keep up to date with your charts, with your residents ABL's and vital signs. If anything may change, make sure you keep in contact with the charge nurse. If they decline anything, make sure you keep in contact with the charge nurse.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Darlene. We had some good times together. The most memorable time was when after I did everything and she would finish her daily routine, we would sit back and watch wild western movies. She really loved that. She always had her refrigerator set in certain ways, we always sat back and watched talk shows.
