Hi! My name is Olivia and I've been a caregiver for five years. I live in Leander, TX.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I worked at Baptist Memorial at the age of 18, tending to the Alzheimer's unit, worked night shift and I enjoyed caring for the elderly but became a stay-at-home mom for years. Then, my mom and my father became ill with Parkinson's, diabetes, low blood pressure, heart disease, so I became their caregiver. They have passed on and now I am giving back and caring for others that need help. That's why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be very patient, loving, and work slow with the client, and get to know them as well as possible.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, his name is Jack and Joyce. They were a very precious couple. Jack enjoyed talking about sports. Joyce enjoyed speaking about her work she did in the past and that was helping women, battered women, in San Antonio. Jack enjoyed exercising, stretching, walking. And I will never forget them because they were so kind and so polite. I was grateful that I had the opportunity to tend and take care of them this last year.
