Hi, my name is Oreatha. I live in Fresno, CA. I've been a caregiver for 10 years approximately.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother inspired me, I also took care of her and other family members and it just touched a part of my heart that I felt like everyone needs somebody.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be alert, be compassionate, be loving, understanding, be there to listen to realize that they need someone and you're that someone that you want them to need and feel comfortable with.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget name was Jim. He was a guy that was just very blue, just very lonely. Once I began working with him, it was like I made his sun shine. Every day I came in, I would ask him if he wanted a cup of coffee and it was always like, "You bet I do." He would put smiles on my face and I would put smiles on his face and I really started to notice that with him and also his family that I was changing his blue sky to sunshine.
