Hi, my name is Patricia. I live in Oakland, CA and I have five years of experience as a caregiver and four years as a CNA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was caring for my dad who suffered from stroke and I was the immediate caregiver for him. So when he passed that passion just continue in me to help other people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient and to not take client's response personal. Sometimes clients with dementia can will say things they didn't even mean. So my advice to a new caregiver will be don't take anything personal with clients.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is Ms. Betty. She was very nice, she was inspiring, she always encouraged me and it was a great feeling. She always like to read and she loved to exercise. That was really inspiring for me because these are the type of things I like to do. We would both read and exercise together. She had a good fight and I really miss her.
