Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Patricia and I live in San Jose. I got interested in home healthcare as the first half of my working professional life I was a Medicare billing supervisor, and I educated senior citizens about how their benefits worked. I took great pride in making it simple for them and uncomplicating the process. It delighted me to be able to help so many senior citizens. It seemed like a natural transition for me to go on helping senior citizens in whatever way I could.
What kind of experience do you have as a caregiver?
I think we all have family members who have had some sort of difficulties. My own mother had an ileostomy and she needed care. Of course, taking care of a family member was no chore--it was a pleasure. My father-in-law suffered from Alzheimer's and we took him into our home for a while and helped care for him. I was helping change bandages for my mom, and helping with an Alzheimer's patient with my father-in-law.
