Hi, my name is Pedrito. I'm living here in Lakewood City, CA and my experience as a caregiver is four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver in 2012, because the company that I work for supported my school as a CNA. They hired me as soon as I finished my course as a CNA. Then I passed the exam, then I got the license. They hired me right away, and I found out in myself that this is my passion.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, first of all, you have to be flexible in your time, and you should be a good team worker. You should treat others as a family member. Try to accept that you will work, also, with other caregivers who need your endorsement. You need to make the proper way of caring for the client before you leave the house so that the next caregiver is sure to follow what is in the care plan.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mr. Carl, from among the many unforgettable ones that I honestly had. In the memory unit, actually all of us, the caregivers and the CNAs are having a hard time with him in giving him a bath or in giving some instructions. But I was the only one who made him do so and convinced him to like taking a bath.
