Hi, my name is Peggy and I live in Bonaire, GA. I've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of taking care of my mother who was ill with cancer and after that, I continued helping out friends and family members, and just got into the caregiver role, and have been really fulfilled with helping others.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to just treat your clients as you would want someone to be caring for you. Make sure that they're comfortable, warm, happy, and above all, if they can communicate with you, just listen to what they have to say, and help them in their daily needs.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Mary. She was a client that from the first day we met, we just had a special connection. I felt like she was a secondary mom to me. Not in the mom role, just the fact that we connected and she became such a good friend, and I would just listen to all the things she had to say. She suffered from Alzheimer's, and so, her family would try to correct her when she spoke, and that always caused a great frustration with her, and I just listened and let her tell me whatever she needed to tell me.
