Hi, my name is Peggy. I live in Elk Grove, CA and I have 9 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I'm a people person and I love to help out seniors and the elderly. It also gave me an experience when a loved one that I was close to passed away at an old age, so I enjoyed it ever since.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient, listen, look at your surroundings, and pick up new things that other caregivers have experienced in the field because it helps in the long run. Little things. With different clients, you learn new things and always take that into consideration. Take it with you as you go further into this career -- healthcare or caregiving.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is named Naomi. She was so funny. She was very bright. She had so much energy. Every day that I went to work with her, she always had this spark of energy about her that always keeps you smiling and laughing. She was a victim of stroke. Even though she couldn't really talk, it was her expressions that she did with her hands. It was just something that made you feel happy and kept you laughing even though she couldn't speak. It was things that she did and I really enjoyed that and I will never forget that. To this day, I still have a good relationship with her.
