Hi, my name is Peggy. I live in Rancho Cordova, CA and I have been a caregiver for six years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love taking care of people. I love always make them smile, and also I became a caregiver because I had to take care of a family member growing up.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would probably be have a lot of patience because patience is a big key in any kind of caregiving field or even medical field in itself. If you don't have patience, that's going to be kind of hard because you have to have patience because a lot of the people you care for are a little bit slow or have certain problems, that kind of make them slow, which is not their fault. So, I've always had to learn patience as a big key, even communication. So, my advice would probably be have good patience and communication and be willing to help.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Marie. The reason why is that one time we had to take a trip up to, I think it was Vacaville, and we were in the car, and she made some funny noise, and she thought I was going to be embarrassed, which in reality I wasn't, and she was somewhere the way that she was holding her little arms to her chest laughing, made me laugh with her because I thought it was so funny. That was the best memory we ever had, and so, I will never forget that.
