Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Pearl. I live in San Francisco and I've been a caregiver for 20 years. I started my career as a Registered Nurse in the Philippines. I worked and lived as a Registered Nurse in the ICU department for 10 years, then I worked as well in Vancouver, Canada. Then I moved to the U.S. and that's when I started doing caregiving for 10 years.
What type of experiene do you have?
I've worked with clients suffering from Alzheimer's, dementia, diabetes. I'm also experienced with taking care of patients using the Hoyer lift, transferring from bed to wheelchair, or bed to getting up, using the cane and walker. I have also tremendous experience as a Registered Nurse working in different hospitals.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
One of my favorite clients is a 93 year old woman. I've been working with her every day for ten years. In the beginning it's not easy to work with her, but we became really a good team. Unfortunately, she passed away recently so that makes me really, really sad.
What is are your strengths as a caregiver?
People tell me that I'm a good caregiver because they said I know what I'm doing. I can do a variety of works for their own safety and care. And of course I treat all my clients with respect and dignity.
