Hi, my name is PollyAnne, and I live in Compton-Carson area in CA. I have 25 years or more experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver/aid assistant because of my parents when they got older. I then went overseas to learn another language and was hanging out in the senior center, and that is how I learned Taiwanese and Mandarin Chinese. And from then on, I started taking care of the elderly.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient and understand the resident's need. Perform their personal care as they like it, and this will make everything go smoothly.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Bob. He always had things done in a certain way. And when other caregivers did not do that, he would call for me because I knew step by step on how he liked things done. And also, sometimes he would give the other caregivers a hard time, so it took three caregivers to get him up in the morning but only, I, one caregiver, to put him to bed. I would ask him, "Bob, why does it take three caregivers to get you up in the morning?" And he said, with his response, was, "Wouldn't you?" That was a joke between us until he passed.
