Hey, my name is Poonam. I live in Santa Rosa, CA and I've been a caregiver for 5 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my personal reasons because I took care of my mom and dad for almost ten years, and they're very sick. So whenever I see a sick person, I just realize that I'm taking care of my parents. And now, this day, I'm working in the elder home, and they are like my parents too, and I work in mental hospital too.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be a patient because they are old people. They need your attention, they need your patience, and love them and take care of them as a personally, emotionally, and mentally as possible.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I'll never forget is Peter, and he's still alive. Whenever I see him, he makes me happy, even though he's in a wheelchair but he never get mad and he's always happy, and he wants me happy too. I'll never forget him, my entire life.
