Hi. My name is PuaNani, live in San Mateo, CA. I have a total of seven years as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I absolutely love and enjoy taking care of the elderly. It's like taking care of your own parents or your grandparents.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be, first of all, I would say enjoy the ride. It's really, really important to gain some insight and gain understanding, helping when needed, and become loving, caring and being very compassionate. That is the advice that I would give.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
This client, her name is Fern, I will never forget. 92 years old and she had dementia. The other thing I've noticed with her is she would remember my name. As I walk in the room she remembered who I am. And another thing, I would take her for a long drive once a day, and get her all dressed up, and then get her in the car and just go for a drive from 10:00am till all day on that freeway. She loved to look outside, and then when she look she started remembering the building and we'd start having a conversation. That was a very, very enjoying experience for me.
