Hi, my name is Quiana. I live in Pittsburg and I've been a caregiver for about six and a half years.
How did you get into caregiving?I decided caregiving because I was living with an ex and the mom was very ill and had diabetes and RA. And she needed my help so I was helping her out. And I just enjoyed helping her. And so after that, I decided to get into caregiving.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have a lot of patience and to just go with the flow. Because you never know where the mindset of the person is. So basically just go with the flow, and have a lot of patience, and just be caring.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable client was my ex's mother because at times it just seemed like she was a child because she wouldn't remember things and she liked to color with my daughter. So I just thought it was cute when she would do that. And then there were times when she was confused and I just had a lot of patience with her and talked to her a lot. And just let her tell me stories about her past and just things that she was happy about. And that seemed to make her happy.
