Hi, my name is Rachel. I live in Elk Grove. I've been a caregiver for 23 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver having to provide care for a loved one. I like helping people, and I've been doing it for so long that I enjoy what I do.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to new a caregiver would be to be patient, kind, caring, and considerate, and never to take things personal.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Val. Just listening to his stories about being in the military and the experiences that he had in life will always be memorable, being his caregiver and being able to persuade him to do things that his wife could not get him to do. He and I had a great rapport. He laughed a lot, enjoyed going on walks with him, and just even when he would become agitated or excited, I could calm him down and bring him back to reality, so I will never forget him.
