Hello, my name is Rachelle Green and I live in San Francisco, CA and I've been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love working with people, more specifically elderly and disabled people. I enjoy my time with them, learning from them and spending time with them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
I would recommend to a beginning caregiver that they get to know the person before they start working with them so that they're comfortable with them and that they're comfortable with you because they'll be working very closely. I would recommend that they understand all of their responsibilities and duties before beginning so that everything is smooth and that both the patient and the caregiver are happy.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I would say my most memorable experience with caregiving would be for the lady I'm currently helping out. Mrs. Francois, she's 90 years old with severe dementia. She rarely leaves her home and so since I've been working with her, it's been my goal intention to get her out of the house. For example, we took her to Laguna Honda to visit her son who's there, he's very ill, and she doesn't get to see him very often. And it was just amazing seeing them together and smiling and enjoying each other's company. So we're working on getting her out even more into the world while she's counting down her years because she's also very sick.
